Dear JA Families,
Thank you very much to all of the parents who contributed to our Latke day on Monday and to Ms. Boardman for coordinating. I would like to provide a special recognition to Karen Lazar and Mia Sun for helping distribute Latkes on Monday morning.
This will be the final Weekly Wednesday before the Winter Break. I look forward to seeing everyone at the Winter Concert tomorrow evening and I wish everyone a safe and enjoyable Holiday Season.
Holiday Concert
Our annual Holiday Concert will take place tomorrow and the theme of this year’s concert will be ‘Freeze Frame!’ The concert will begin at 7:00 p.m. and wrap up by 8:00 p.m. There will be a social for parents between 6:00 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. in the library, and students will be supervised in their classroom at this time.
Dress for this event is full uniform for all students. Adults generally come in business casual attire.
Please note, construction at York Mills and Bayview is causing a significant disruption to traffic. Please give yourself extra time to arrive and please park on side streets around the school and be sure to obey no parking zones.
Annual Fund
I am excited to share that with only a short time left in our Annual Fund Campaign have almost reached our goal. We are currently at just over
$61 000 and almost 60% of our families have donated. There is still one week left if you wish to donate and your help is greatly appreciated as your support is paramount to us developing and implementing innovative programming.
Movie Night –Tuesday, December 18th, 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m.
Would you like a quiet dinner out or perhaps the opportunity to do some Christmas shopping without kids in tow? JA has the answer! Bring your child(ren) to Movie Night on December 18th. Children and their siblings (relatives and friends are also welcome) may be dropped off at school for Sherlock Gnomes. A pizza dinner and popcorn will be served. The cost for one child is $20.00 and each additional child from the same family is $15.00. To reserve a space for your child(ren) for movie night please contact Paul Bamberger, pbamberger@junioracademy.com by Friday, December 14th.
Toy Drive 2018
There are only two days left in our annual toy drive! Up until Friday, students are asked to bring in a new, unwrapped toy and the Toronto Firefighters will be coming to school to pick up all donations on December 14th. Donations should be shown to homeroom teachers (for house point tracking) and then placed under the Christmas tree in the foyer. If you have any final questions about the Toy Drive please contact Mr. Sidler (msidler@junioracademy.com).
Science Fair
Our grades 5-8 students have been working exceptionally hard on their Science Fair projects and they are eager to share them on Monday, December 17th. Parents are invited to come from 8:40 – 9:40 to browse.
Skiing Program: 2019
This is the final call for students in grades 2 to 8 to submit registration forms and payment to participate in our winter ski program at Heights of Horseshoe. Given the capacity of the coach bus, we are only able to accommodate 52 students on each of the three ski dates and registration is on a first come, first served basis. If your child requires additional support beyond the planned student to teacher ratio of 8:1 please let me know by December 17th so we may discuss whether this request is able to be accommodated.
Please note, non-skiers will still have programming offered at the school. If your child is not skiing and will not be attending school, please let your homeroom teacher know.
Uniform Sale
InSchoolWear will be holding a 50% off sale throughout December on our remaining Junior Academy inventory.
Beginning in January, you will be able to get regular uniform pieces from our new uniform supplier, McCarthy’s. Please note, due to the mid-year changeover, our new gym attire will not be available until later in the school year.
