Dear JA Families,
The school is beginning to look festive as we approach / celebrate the Holiday Season. Thank you to Chrys Schultz for all of her efforts in decorating the atrium.
Uniform Sale
InSchoolWear will be holding a 50% off sale throughout December on our remaining Junior Academy inventory.
Beginning in January, you will be able to get regular uniform pieces from our new uniform supplier, McCarthy’s. Please note, due to the mid-year changeover, our new gym attire will not be available until later in the school year.
Volunteers for Latke Day – December 10
We are making one final request for assistance with our Latke day next Monday. We are still looking for donations and ff you are able to assist either by donating Latke’s or helping for a couple of hours on the morning of December 10th to reheat and distribute Latke’s to homerooms, please contact Melshean Boardman (mboardman@junioracademy.com)
Annual Fund Update
We are less than $10,000 away from reaching our Annual Fund goal. There is still some time left in this year’s campaign and we are hopeful that all families will be supporting this year’s campaign.
If you haven’t made your contribution yet, we hope that you will support the campaign and make a contribution suitable to individual circumstance.
Thank you to our JA families for your generosity!
Holiday Concert
Our annual Holiday Concert will take place on December 13th, 2018. The theme of this year’s concert will be ‘Freeze Frame!’ The concert will begin at 7:00 p.m. and wrap up by 8:00 p.m. There will be a social for parents between 6:00 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. in the library, and students will be supervised in their classroom at this time.
Tickets are on sale now and they are $10 each.
If your child will be staying at school until 6:00 and requires dinner, please fill out the pizza form which accompanied the form for ticket purchases. (sent home earlier this week)
Dress for this event is full uniform for all students. Adults generally come in business casual attire.
Please park on side streets around the school and be sure to obey no parking zones. Families who won ‘priority parking’ at the 2018 Fun Fair Silent Auction will have a space reserved.
Skiing Program: 2019
This year, students in grades 2 to 8 are invited to participate in our winter ski program at Heights of Horseshoe. Ski trip forms were sent home last week and given the capacity of the coach bus, we are only able to accommodate 52 students on each for the two ski dates. Registration is on a first come, first served basis. If you haven’t registered yet, there are still a limited number of spaces remaining. If your child requires additional support beyond the planned student to teacher ratio of 8:1 please let me know ASAP so we may discuss whether this request is able to be accommodated.
Toy Drive 2018
Annually, Junior Academy participates in a Holiday Toy Drive. For the third year in a row, we have partnered with the Toronto Firefighters’ Toy Drive. Continuing until December 14th, students are asked to bring in a new, unwrapped toy. Donations should be shown to homeroom teachers (for house point tracking) and then placed under the Christmas tree in the foyer. The toys will be picked up from the school on December 14th, perhaps by the Toronto Firefighters themselves.
Movie Night – Save the Date! Tuesday, December 18th, 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m.
Would you like a quiet dinner out or perhaps the opportunity to do some Christmas shopping without kids in tow? JA has the answer! Bring your child(ren) to Movie Night on December 18th. Children and their siblings (relatives and friends are also welcome) may be dropped off at school for Sherlock Gnomes. A pizza dinner and popcorn will be served. The cost for one child is $20.00 and each additional child from the same family is $15.00. To reserve a space for your child(ren) for movie night please contact Paul Bamberger, pbamberger@junioracademy.com
