Dear JA Families,
Thank you to everyone who helped out at our Scholastic Book Fair this week and thank you to those who supported it. The book fair always generates lots of excitement and it’s a great way to promote reading.
Carpool / TTC Partner
We are looking for a family who is interested in carpooling or setting up a TTC Buddy system from the Parkdale/Roncesvalles area. If you live in this area and are able to help in this regard, please contact Cathy Hibbert, chibbert@junioracademy.com .
Skiing Program: 2019
This year, students in grades 2 to 8 are invited to participate in our winter ski program at Heights of Horseshoe. Ski trip forms were sent home last week and given the capacity of the coach bus, we are only able to accommodate 52 students on each for the two ski dates. Registration is on a first come, first served basis. If you haven’t registered yet, there are still a limited number of spaces remaining. If your child requires additional support beyond the planned student to teacher ratio of 8:1 please let me know ASAP so we may discuss whether this request is able to be accommodated.
Holiday Decorating Volunteers Needed
We are still looking for a couple of volunteers to help us with our seasonal decorating.
Each year around this time Junior Academy is decorated for the holidays. If you have a knack for tree trimming, or can help with other interior decorations around the school please let Nick Johnson know. We are hoping to find volunteers to decorate a tree in the atrium and the interior entranceways this Friday afternoon.
We will also need some help decorating the library and the stage for our December 13th winter concert. (On December 13th)
Holiday Concert – December 13th
If you don’t have this marked on your calendar already, our annual Holiday Concert will take place on December 13th, 2018. The theme of this year’s concert will be ‘Freeze Frame!’ The concert will begin at 7:00 p.m. and wrap up around 7:45 p.m. There will be a social for parents between 6:00 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. in the library, and students will be supervised in their classroom at this time. Ticket orders will be sent home net week and tickets are $10 each.
If your child will be staying at school until 6:00 and requires dinner, please fill out the pizza form which will accompany the form for ticket purchases.
Volunteers for Latke Day – December 10
Latke day at JA has become a tradition! If you are able to assist either by donating Latke’s or helping for a couple of hours on the Monday of December 18th to reheat and distribute Latke’s to homerooms, please contact Melshean Boardman (mboardman@junioracademy.com) by Monday, December 3rd. In years past, families have donated a dozen latkes each (homemade or purchased), sour cream and/or apple sauce to the event
Annual Fund Campaign
Contributions continue to come in for our Annual Fund Campaign and we are now only $12,000 short of reaching our goal. There is still some time left in this year’s campaign and we are hopeful that all families will be supporting this year’s campaign.
If you haven’t made your contribution yet, we hope that you will support the campaign and make a contribution suitable to individual circumstance.
Thank you to our JA families for your generosity!
Winter Clubs
Our Term Two Clubs list is being posted and information about our pay clubs was sent home last week. (attached again for your perusal) Please encourage your child to join a club or sport. Prior experience is not needed – only a willingness to try!

Toy Drive 2018
Annually, Junior Academy participates in a Holiday Toy Drive. For the third year in a row, we have partnered with the Toronto Firefighters’ Toy Drive. Continuing until December 14th, students are asked to bring in a new, unwrapped toy. Donations should be shown to homeroom teachers (for house point tracking) and then placed under the Christmas tree in the foyer. The toys will be picked up from the school on December 14th, perhaps by the Toronto Firefighters themselves.
Movie Night – Save the Date! Tuesday, December 18th, 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m.
Would you like a quiet dinner out or perhaps the opportunity to do some Christmas shopping without kids in tow? JA has the answer! Bring your child(ren) to Movie Night on December 18th. Children and their siblings (relatives and friends are also welcome) may be dropped off at school for Sherlock Gnomes. A pizza dinner and popcorn will be served. The cost for one child is $20.00 and each additional child from the same family is $15.00. To reserve a space for your child(ren) for movie night please contact Paul Bamberger, pbamberger@junioracademy.com
