Dear JA Families,

A reminder that as the cold weather arrives, it is now time to begin sending cold weather items such as hats, gloves, scarves and boots to school with your child. This is particularly important on OE days where we will continue to be outdoors for an extended period. A sufficient jacket with water repellency and a change of footwear are essential for OE. Please ensure that your child has the items necessary to remain warm in the colder weather and that all articles of clothing are properly labelled.

Our mid-term break is this coming weekend. Please note that the school will be closed of Friday, November 9th and Monday, November 12th. I wish everyone an enjoyable long weekend and we look forward to seeing you on Tuesday.

Annual Fund

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this year’s Annual Fund Campaign. With your support, we have passed the half-way mark to our goal. If you haven’t made your contribution yet, there’s still time! We hope that all families will make a contribution suitable to their individual circumstance.

Round Table / Survey Monkey Follow-Up

Thank you again to all of the families who participated in both our Round Tables and our Survey Monkey. Attached is a letter outlining the main results and a couple of items we have begun to take action on.

Remembrance Day Assembly

Our school’s Remembrance Day assembly will be held next tomorrow, November 8th, beginning at 8:45 a.m. in the gym.  Mr. Sidler will lead the Remembrance Day assembly, along with students from various classes. Parents are welcome to attend and all students are required to be in Full Dress for the assembly.

Walk-Through Wednesdays

Today is the first date in our Walk-Through Wednesday Open Houses for prospective parents. We have a number of small signs that we would like placed in neighbourhoods within driving distance of Junior Academy to advertise the November Open House dates. The signs are available at the back of the school and we hope that you will take a sign (or a couple) and put them on your yard and street.

Scholastic Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair will be held from November 26-28 in our library. Thank you to all of the families who have already volunteered to help. We are still looking for some set-up volunteers and cashiers.

Set Up Volunteers - This would take place on November 23rd, starting at 2:00 p.m.

Cashiers - We need several parents to act as cashiers for the students purchasing books. There are 2 shifts each day; 8-8:40am and 3 - 4:30. You do not need to sign up for an entire shift, we can split shifts between volunteers :)

Please contact Cathy Hibbert, chibbert@junioracademy.com if you are able to volunteer.

Hot Chocolate Fundraiser

Please see the note below, written by the grade eight class.

It is that time of year again! Flu season, flu shots, and sickness! But, we want to warm you up with something sweet and hot. Thirsty Thursdays are back for another year. This year, we will be offering Hot Chocolate for $2.00, one scoop of Marshmallows for 25¢, and a little bit of whip cream for 25¢. A new addition to the Thirsty Thursday line-up is that we will be offering a nice, nut-free treat for $1.00.

Thirsty Thursday will begin on Thursday, November 22nd and will run for four consecutive weeks.

Every year the Grade 8’s arrange a couple of fundraisers which go towards the purchase of a gift that the Grade 8 class gives to the school as an appreciation for what the school has done for us. The Grade 8’s get to decide what the gift is going to be. As an example, last year, the gift was the new podium. Thank you for supporting this fundraiser.
