Over the last few weeks our students have represented the school at several sports tournaments, the final one of this year occurring tomorrow. I’d like to commend all of our students who have participated in the various sports tournaments over recent weeks. We have had many impressive results and your sportsmanship has been exemplary. I would also like to thank all of the staff members who dedicated their time to coach these teams.
Toronto Raptors Day – May 30th
In an effort to support our local basketball team as they begin the NBA Finals, all students and staff are invited to wear Toronto Raptors gear this Thursday, May 30th.

School Clubs
As we approach the end of the school year, next week will be the final week for school clubs.
Melting Mondays – Frozen Treat Sales
During second recess on June 3rd and June 10th, the grade eight class will be selling frozen treats for $1.00 or $2.00 each. Proceeds from the sales will go towards the grade eight graduation gift that they will be donating to the school.
Junior Academy Fun Fair – Tuesday, June 11th
This year’s Junior Academy Fun Fair will take place on Tuesday, June 11th from 5:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
We are still seeking silent auction items for the fun fair. Items that are often of interest include tickets for sporting events, golfing, food baskets and gift certificates. We thank you in advance for your contributions and appreciate your support of this event. Cathy Hibbert will be collecting silent auction items and she can be reached at chibbert@junioracademy.com.
McCarthy’s Uniform Fitting – June 11 during the Fun Fair
Our uniform supplier, McCarthy’s, will be joining us to provide uniform fittings and ordering opportunities for all of our students. All orders can be shipped directly to your home this summer.
Graduation and Awards Ceremony
Our Graduation Ceremony will occur on Thursday, June 14th at 9:00 a.m., The classroom and school leadership awards will also be presented at this assembly. Parents of award winners will be notified prior to the event.
Junior Academy Year-End Camp
If you haven’t done so yet, be sure to register for Junior Academy’s Year-End Camp. Camp will run from June 17th to 26th! All registrations are due by June 1st in order to book the various venues. Cancellations after June 1st will be 50% refundable. See the attached form for all of the amazing trip and activities we have organized this year.
U of T Research Project on Choosing Independent Schools
Thank you to those of you who have already participated in the U of T research survey on Independent schools. A PhD. Candidate from the University of Toronto is conducting an anonymous survey as part of his research into why parents choose independent schools. Attached is a letter outlining his research as well as a link to the survey, if you are interested in participating.
Library Volunteer
We are currently looking a parent, or group of parents, who are interested in taking over the organization and maintenance of our Junior Academy library. If you are interested and are able to dedicate a couple of hours per week to our library program, please let me know. (pbamberger@junioracademy.com)
Class Party for the Fall
At the beginning of the school year, parents from various classes have gotten together for an evening either at someone’s home or at a local restaurant for drinks, to chat and get to know each other. This year, many of these social evenings happened in the late fall. In an effort to welcome new families and promote community within JA, it would be ideal if these events could occur closer to the beginning of the school year.
